The impact we have at IU

If you have any affiliation with Indiana University, chances are you’ve attended one of our events, including Commencement ceremonies across all of Indiana University. University Events is how special occasions, ceremonies, and more become a part of IU’s heritage.

When IU comes together for a celebration, symposium, or lecture—including many special events that fall outside of our regular annual calendar—University Events works to make everyone feel welcome, honored, and safe.

Installation of Chancellor Ken Iwama

Garrett Wolf, IU Northwest’s Student Government Association president said of new Chancellor Ken Iwama, “He leads our campus forward with the students’ perspectives at the forefront. I don’t think we could have found a better leader.”

Lilly Library rededication

Consistently regarded as one of the nation’s leading special collections libraries, the Lilly Library was established in 1960 and rededicated in 2021 with an inspirational cycle of murals from nationally renowned public artist Ralph Gilbert.

Mies van der Rohe Building dedication

Architect Dirk Lohan, grandson of legendary architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, took part in dedicating the Mies van der Rohe Building at IU Bloomington, which was 70 years in the making. The Modernist building, designed by its namesake, was first planned for IU Bloomington in the 1950s.

Martha Dawson portrait unveiling

The late Martha Dawson was honored for her pioneering research in the fields of elementary and multicultural education and her lifelong work as a professor and administrator with the unveiling of a portrait by Dianna Porter. The portrait was commissioned as part of the IU Bicentennial’s Bridging the Visibility Gap Initiative.

Stephen L. and Connie J. Ferguson International Center groundbreaking

IU’s rich history of work around the world provides every student an education enriched by diverse perspectives, cultures, and languages. The Ferguson International Center will be the heart of international and student activities. It will also serve as a venue for hosting foreign academic and government delegations, highlighting our standing as one of the country’s most globally engaged universities.

President Whitten meets students across IU

Within weeks of being selected as Indiana University’s 19th president, Dr. Pamela Whitten began an around-the-state listening and learning tour with students, faculty, and staff across all IU campuses. It’s a vital part—and start—to her work to push IU even further ahead in research and education.
