IU Bloomington Honors Convocation

In Your Honor

Indiana University Bloomington holds each of its students in high esteem and takes an added measure of pride in those who show sustained academic excellence over time. We honor these outstanding seniors and other academically distinguished undergraduates at the IUB Honors Convocation each year. This convocation is an occasion for students and their families to come together and be recognized by faculty and staff for their hard work, dedication, and achievements as IUB's top scholars.

The 2024 IU Bloomington Honors Convocation will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 in the Indiana University Auditorium, 1211 E. Seventh Street, on the IU Bloomington campus. Doors will open for seating at 1 p.m. EDT. Senior honorees should arrive no later than 1:30 p.m. EDT.

During the Honors Convocation:

  • Senior Founders Scholars will be individually recognized.
  • Senior Hutton Honors College Notation recipients will be individually recognized.
  • All other Founders Scholars will be acknowledged.
  • Scholars from other select programs will also be honored.

*All full-time IUB undergraduates with a cumulative grade point average of 3.8 or higher earn the title of Founders Scholars.

After the Honors Convocation:

Immediately following the convocation, you and your guests are invited to a reception around Showalter Fountain with live music, refreshments, and photo opportunities with deans, faculty and fellow honorees.

Other Important Details:

Formal invitations to the Honors Convocation are mailed to each eligible student’s home address, along with a formal letter of commendation signed by President Pamela Whitten.

Email invitations are also sent to all eligible students. Invited students are asked to RSVP via their invitation.

Full-time Founders Scholars receive individualized certificates recognizing their achievements, and programs that list their names.

To ensure that mailings reach the correct address and that names appear in the preferred way in Honors Convocation printed materials, Founders Scholars should do the following:

  1. Review name and address information at Student Central.
  2. Click on the Personal Information tab to confirm that your name is spelled and formatted correctly, and to confirm or update your home address. That’s where Honors Convocation materials are mailed.
  3. To prevent Honors Convocation materials from being mailed, and to keep your name from being printed in the program booklet, you must place a Student Directory Restriction in the Student Information System (SIS). The Office of University Events cannot process these requests; students must submit them personally.

Complimentary parking and shuttle service to and from the Auditorium is offered in both Henderson and Poplars garages. Shuttles will be looping from 12:45 p.m. - 5 p.m. to both garages from IU Auditorium. Complimentary parking is also available in the East Garage, which is within walking distance of IU Auditorium.

The Office of International Services (OIS) is available to help students whose family members need to apply for visas in order to attend the Honors Convocation.

Family members or friends of international students can apply for a U.S. visitor visa at their nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. Not all embassies or consulates require the same documents for a visa application, so it is important for your guests to consult the embassy or consulate they plan to visit. Information about visitor visas, including appointment wait times, is available here. Encourage your guests to apply for a visa as early as possible.

Honors Convocation is a formal ceremony. Students and their guests sitting in the audience are advised to wear business casual attire.
